Find a superb offer!

It is only by combining three elements, namely, your needs, and your capabilities, as related to the job you are planning, and the requirements of the market, that you will have a chance of succeeding and getting your dream job.

The more information you gather, the better you’ll know the labour market and, in consequence, the greater will be your ability to find a job there. The anszwers to the following questions will provide the information you’ll need to carry out such an analysis:

  • Employees of what specialty (occupation) are sought after in the area in which you'd like to work?
  • How many openings for such employees do employers offer?
  • What are the requirements set by the employers for the candidates?
  • How is recruitment conducted?

Finding employees – recruitment sources

The most frequently used way of finding employees is using information obtained from co workers, family members or a network of friends and colleagues (networking).
Therefore, when an employer finds job candidates in such a way, the information about the opening is not released at all as a job offer in an employment office, the media, etc.. Instead, it reaches the ‘hidden labour market’.
The remaining offers, which may be described as publicly available, create the ‘open labour market’. According to statistics, openings on the hidden market make up about two thirds of all job offers.
While most of the offers are on the hidden labour market, the majority of job-seekers are searching for them on the open labour market.

In consequence, to increase your chances, what you should do is:

  • create your own network of contacts and learn about job offers from your friends and acquaintances
  • ask your friends for contacts and information. Don’t ask them to find you a job, though!

Finding a job is a difficult thing to do. When you ask people for to find you a job, you’re asking a very great deal of them. It’s very possible that they may be unable to do so and, as a result, they will avoid you in future, for instance.

Family, friends and colleagues may know about:

  • an opening at their workplace or in another company
  • newly established or developing companies which may be looking for new employees
  • somebody who is changing his/her (for various reasons) – in other words, creating an opening. Maybe that position would be of interest to you?

By following this advice, you’ll create a network like a spider’s web. One day, something may well get caught in it!
